To make this porridge we coat peices of NZ dried suphite-free apples and dates in cinnamon and add these and roasted buckwheat to our oats and oat bran. The small roasted buckwheat seeds stay whole during cooking to give little bites of flavour as you crunch them. The apples and dates provide a well rounded flavour so we do not add any sugar, none is really needed.
People have different approaches to cooking porridge, some insist that it should only be cooked in a pot while others prefer the microwave method.
If you are not sure, try mumma bear's microwave method as it is the easiest:
Place ⅓ - ½ cup of the mix into a microwave proof bowl, pour over twice as much water or milk. Microwave on high for 1 minute, stir and zap for a further 40 seconds – done! Stir and enjoy with yoghurt or milk.
